Sensitive but Saccharin

First Instinct by Suzie O'Connell. I nearly put it down. I hate college romance. Rubbing teen spirit in your face, making you feel all ancient with all those 'Babes', 'Bays' and 'Boos'. But, I'm so glad I read on because there was nothing formulaic about this romance. In fact, it's a brave author that starts a romance with a rape. And the darkness was counter-played with a sweet emotional relationship intricately developed between the two main characters, Beth and Nick.

And that's my gripe. Nick was virtually canonized.

Sorry, but I like my protagonists with a little more grit on the soles of their shoes.
